The Nepalese army has deployed troops in coordination with other security agencies due to the escalating situation caused by growing protests in the country led by Generation Z, Khabarhub reports.
“If these activities do not cease, the army, in collaboration with other security forces, will be fully mobilized to bring the situation under control,” the army said in a statement.
Nepalese police used tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse protesters attempting to enter parliament. Authorities subsequently imposed a curfew around the parliament building, which will remain in effect until the situation stabilizes, according to a police statement.
Thousands of young people, including students, were arrested by police who set up barbed wire barricades to prevent them from marching towards Parliament.
Nepal’s presidential palace and other key buildings were completely destroyed, and violence also targeted the homes of political leaders, police stations, and media outlets.
