The plane was diverted to Shanghai Pudong International Airport to ensure the safety of everyone on board. Video shared on Chinese social media and published by NBC News shows bright flames and thick smoke rising from the upper deck as passengers scream in panic.

Witnesses said two flight attendants ran down the aisle with fire extinguishers while others instructed passengers to stay in their seats. One passenger told local media that she heard a loud explosion seconds before flames erupted from the overhead bin.

The plane landed safely in Shanghai at around 11:00 a.m., according to Flightradar24. Passengers were later transferred to a replacement plane that flew them to Seoul. The airline said there was no structural damage to the plane.
