Max then revealed that his father was hospitalized and needed expensive surgery. He confessed that his funds were tied up in a startup, preventing him from paying for the operation. He was a businessman and invested in innovative startups.
“How much do you need? Maybe I can help you?” Lisa asks.
“The total… $50,000.”
Lisa hesitated. “I… don’t have that much money.”

“You haven’t saved up for a house? I’ll pay you back once I receive the money from my new business.”
Lisa bit her lip, wondering what she could possibly do. “I’ll think about it. I’m sure we can find a way to raise that kind of money.”
Max nodded, a grateful smile on his face. “Okay, thank you.”
Suddenly, Max’s phone rang and he answered it. On the other end of the line, he said it was his cleaning lady informing him of a flood in his basement. He apologized to Lisa: “I’m sorry, but I have to take care of this. I can’t go to dinner with your parents.”
Lisa feels a mixture of understanding and disappointment. “I know it’s important, but I’m still sad that you’re missing dinner. Why not tomorrow? We can reschedule.”
