Urinating in the shower: eco-friendly but risky?

Many eco-citizens are adopting this practice to reduce their water consumption. Every time you avoid flushing, you conserve approximately  6 liters  of drinking water. On a yearly basis, this can represent an impressive savings of  more than 2,000 liters  per person. The environmental impact therefore seems undeniable.  However, experts warn of certain little-known side effects.

A disturbing Pavlovian conditioning

Physiotherapist Alicia Jeffrey-Thomas warns of a  conditioned reflex phenomenon  similar to the well-known experiment with dogs. Our brains may create a link between  the sound of running water and the need to urinate , even when the bladder isn’t asking to be emptied.

The result?  Some people develop an irresistible urge to do so as soon as they hear a running faucet, whether while brushing their teeth or doing the dishes. This involuntary association can become  particularly embarrassing  in public places or when traveling.
