Why Mosquitoes Always Choose You: The Scientific Explanation Few Know
Many people are familiar with the scene: an outdoor meeting, a warm and quiet night, and at the end of the meeting the same person concentrates almost all the mosquito bites, while the rest barely notice their presence. It doesn’t matter if you used repellent, if you chose long clothes or if you avoided contact with grass. The feeling is clear: mosquitoes seem to have a very marked preference. Far from being a coincidence, this phenomenon has an explanation based on biology, body chemistry and certain environmental factors that influence more than is believed.

Mosquitoes do not act randomly. Especially the females, which are the ones that bite, need to feed on blood to complete their reproductive cycle. To achieve this, they developed a very sophisticated detection system that allows them to identify their ideal targets. In this process, the human body emits signals that work as a real GPS for these insects.

One of the most determining factors is carbon dioxide. Every time we breathe, we release CO₂, and mosquitoes are extremely sensitive to this gas. People with greater body mass, more height or who perform physical activity tend to emit greater amounts, which makes them more visible. Added to this is body heat, another key signal that guides mosquitoes to their food source.
