Thyroid Cancer – A Silent Killer: 10 Signs to Watch Out For…

  • Difficulty swallowing or persistent discomfort in the throat

Do you have a  lump in your throat  or difficulty swallowing certain foods? The cause may not be simply a cold or stress. If this discomfort  persists for more than a few days  , consult your doctor. A tumor could be compressing the esophagus.

  • Voice change – becomes hoarse or changes for no apparent reason

This is a sign that we rarely think about. If your voice  drops noticeably, becomes hoarse  , or you have difficulty speaking as you used to, for no apparent reason (cold, allergies, fatigue), it’s a signal that shouldn’t be ignored. The reflex nerve, involved in voice modulation, can be affected by a thyroid tumor.

  • Thyroid cancer: what are the risk factors?

Although the disease can affect anyone, certain groups are at higher risk.  Statistically, women are more likely to contract the disease. Exposure to radiation (especially from older treatments), family history, or certain genetic abnormalities  have also been identified as risk factors.
