A first operation took place, but the hope of saving the leg quickly faded. “From the first day, the surgeon warned me of a high risk of amputation , but that they would do everything to preserve the leg,” the father told the newspaper Le Progrès. Despite intensive care, the leg swelled abnormally. “My leghad doubled, even tripled in size,” the young man confided. Finally, faced with tissue necrosis , he gave his consent for the amputation, which was carried out on July 16. This operation disrupted his professional plans, although he still harbored the hope of becoming a truck driver with the help of a prosthesis.
A complaint against X filed
Believing that the incident was the result of a technical fault, the family filed a complaint against an unknown person on July 21 with the Lons-le-Saunier public prosecutor’s office. The water park, for its part, denies any responsibility. “We committed no fault , everything was in order: we don’t understand how his leg could have gotten stuck between two platforms,” said a co-manager, describing the incident as “a real tragedy for him.” The attraction involved was closed on July 24 to allow investigators to carry out technical checks.
In a letter to his loved ones after the amputation, Jura Splash expressed his regret. “We are truly sorry for what happened. We are trying to understand the causes and above all are thinking of this young man, it is a real tragedy for him,” according to Le Progrès. The investigation will now have to determine whether it was a design flaw , a lack of maintenance or an unforeseen incident. While waiting for the conclusions, the young man begins a long rehabilitation , nurturing the hope of rebuilding himself despite the after-effects.
