All food preferences are acquired,
except for the taste for breast milk, Dr. Wareham believes. This means that if parents feed their child the right food from the very beginning, they will love healthy food.
“Even older people, like me, can change their taste. For example, some people consume too much salt, without it food seems raw to them. But if you reduce the amount of salt in your food a little every day, in the end you will not notice the difference. Eating habits can change in just three months, if you want to.” The fact that his approach is correct is confirmed by his own life.
He retired at the age of 95, although his colleagues persuaded him to stay. “I can still work now. I can do everything I used to do – my hands hold up, my joints don’t hurt, I don’t lose my balance,” he says. “I just decided it was time to spend more time with my family.” Dr. Wareham leads an active lifestyle – he drives his car, does his gardening, trims his bushes and roses himself. His heart, as well as his entire body, is completely healthy.
