Home remedies for excess mucus

1. Stay well hydrated.

Drink plenty of water, herbal tea or hot broth: liquids thin mucus and make it easier to expectorate.

 

 

2. Gargle with warm salt water

Dissolve ½ teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water and gargle several times a day; this soothes the throat and reduces secretions.

 

3. Steam inhalation

Lean over a bowl of hot water, cover your head with a towel and inhale the steam for 5 to 10 minutes – the moisture will liquefy and release congestion.

 

4. Hot compress

Place a warm cloth on your chest or neck to loosen mucus and relieve pressure.

 

 

5. Honey and lemon.

Dissolve 1 tablespoon of honey in a cup of warm water or tea, then add lemon juice. Honey soothes mucous membranes, and lemon helps clear mucus.

 

6. Humidifier:

Keep the air humid, which thins mucus. Clean the device regularly to prevent bacterial growth.

 

7. Nasal irrigation

Use saline solution or a neti pot to remove excess mucus and unclog your sinuses.

 

 

8. Avoid irritants

Avoid cigarette smoke, exhaust fumes, and strong chemical odors: they increase mucus production.
