Erich Fromm – a thinker whose ideas still make one think today. His analyses of the human psyche, freedom and responsibility are still relevant today. And here is one of his thoughts.

In one of his books, Fromm once noted:

“A person’s inability to feel ashamed is a sign that he has lost touch with his soul.”

And this, you know, is a very accurate observation. You must have met such people: they can say something ridiculous, rude or simply illogical, but they will not even raise an eyebrow. They do not blush, they do not get embarrassed, they do not pause to reconsider their words. They are confident in themselves as if the truth were their last name.

And here’s the most interesting thing: if you feel awkward around someone, if everything inside you shrinks with shame for someone else’s words or actions – this is a worrying sign.
