5. Frequent infections or slow-healing wounds
Diabetes weakens the immune response. If you get sick more often, suffer from recurring urinary tract infections, or if your small cuts heal abnormally slowly, hidden high blood sugar could be the cause. Bacteria and fungi thrive in “sugar” blood.
6. Normal weight but large waistline
Even if your BMI is in the “healthy” range, abdominal fat is a major risk factor. Visceral fat—the fat surrounding your organs—is far more dangerous than subcutaneous fat. A waist measurement greater than 88 cm for women or 102 cm for men should not be ignored, even if the scale reads “normal.”
What to do
Get tested : Fasting blood glucose and HbA1c reveal prediabetes and early-stage diabetes.
Limit refined sugars and high glycemic carbohydrates.
Exercise regularly – both strength training and cardio improve insulin sensitivity.
Manage stress : High cortisol levels also increase blood sugar.
Get enough sleep – poor sleep is directly linked to increased insulin resistance.
