16 Things That Emotionally Hurt Your Cat

Disturbing them while they eat
It’s natural for cats to be on high alert if there’s a lot of noise and activity around them during dinnertime. A noisy, busy area can cause stress and prevent cats from eating, or force them to eat too quickly. If you play loud music, your kids play their new video game at full volume, or you shout from room to room, this will disturb your cat while they eat. A quiet, peaceful area allows cats to eat in peace.

Not providing mental stimulation
. A bored cat is a sad cat. Humans can do many different things in their lives, but your cat is limited to the environment you provide. This means it’s up to you to provide activities for your cat. Cats need plenty of mental stimulation to stay healthy and happy. Try playing with them more often or providing toys that will entertain them while you’re at work.

If you live in a small apartment, consider adopting a second cat. Having a companion to play and interact with can go a long way in keeping indoor cats stimulated and happy. Both cats will grow up together and feel less lonely.

Yelling:
Loud voices will terrify your cat. Cats’ ears are extremely sensitive to loud, high-pitched noises. They may perceive the person making these noises as a threat and will begin to avoid them. Remember that yelling at your cat will harm your bond with your pet and cause it to associate negative emotions with you.

Ignore their fears
Cats have a good reason to jump and hide whenever they hear a loud or surprising sound. Our feline friends can hear sounds about 1.6 octaves higher than humans. Common sounds such as vacuum cleaners, video games, fireworks, balloons, or a loud TV can cause stress and anxiety in cats. Flattened ears, a low tail, an arched back, and searching for a place to hide are all signs that your cat is uncomfortable in a particular situation.

Keep in mind that it’s part of a cat’s survival instinct to be afraid of loud noises. Make sure you provide your cat with a calm, relaxed environment that helps them feel safe at home.
